ACB Obtained Restriction Orders On Property Belong To Abdul Karim Batatawala, Two Others.

The Anti-Corruption has obtained restriction orders on property belonging to business man Abdul Karim Batatawala and two others.

Batatawala and two officials from the Immigration Department namely Limbani Chawinga and Fletcher Nyirenda are answering the count of conspiracy to defraud by inflating the market price of 500 lockers procured by the Department.

According to a statement by Egritta Ndala, Principal Public Relations Officer for ACB the restriction notices have issued following allegations of unexplained wealth and property.

Ndala due to the restriction notices – the three are restricted from dealing with the
properties and vehicles outlined in the order until the ACB has concludes the investigations
or lifted the restriction notices.

Meanwhile- the Chief Resident Magistrate in Lilongwe has extended a restriction order which ACB obtained restraining the Ministry of Lands from disposing of or dealing with the properties in which Zuneth Sattar has beneficial interest.

This follows an application that the bureau made to the Court for the renewal of the Restriction Notice to allow the Bureau to finalize investigations it is carrying out on the allegations that Zuneth Sattar and his agent Ashok Nair paid bribes to public officers and other Politically Exposed Persons to obtain public procurement contracts in Malawi.
