Chewa leaders attending elevation ceremony of Senior Chief Chilooko in Ntchisi

Saturday 4th June, 2022 will be remembered in the history of the Central Region Chewas when His Royal Highness Paramount Dr. Lundu was the guest of honor at the elevation ceremony of Traditional Authority Chilooko to the position of Senior Chief at the function held at Mbomba Secondary School in Ntchisi district.
Many Chewas in the region only heard that there’s one Paramount Chief of the Chewas in Malawi but they did not have time to see and interact with him but thanks should go to the organizers for inviting Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu to grace the ceremony.

Lundu’s coming to the Central Region district of Ntchisi was not made an easy walk, some Chewa chiefs did all of what they can to broke him from coming and attending the ceremony but thanks heavens, this failed to the dismay of those who had ill-intentions against him.

Contrary to the wishes of some Chewa chiefs in the region, Dr. Lundu was warmly welcomed and he felt at home in Ntchisi at the ceremony to see to it that Senior Chief Kasakula led fellow Senior Chiefs such as Dzoole, and Kaomba among others, to welcome Dr. Lundu in the district.

Speaking at the ceremony, His Royal Highness Paramount Dr. Lundu assured all the Chewas in Malawi that the late Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda appointed him to be the first Paramount Chief of the Chewas in Malawi.
Dr. Lundu said the colonialists from Britain did not want him to be highly respected and more powerful than the British Queen Elizabeth the second, saying because of their own reasons, they demoted him and he was replaced by the Queen of England.

He appealed to all the Chewas in Malawi to work as one saying in unity there is power and cooperation assuring the people that His Majesty the King, Kalonga Dr. Gawa Undi of Zambia is his real brother according to the Chewa history at Mankhamba and no one should divide them.

……’’I, and Dr. Gawa Undi, we are brothers from the same family of Nyangu, he is the Paramount Chief of the Chewas of Zambia and I am the Paramount Chief of the Chewas in Malawi and above all, our countries, Malawi and Zambia are sovereign,’’……said Dr. Lundu.
The family of Senior Chief Chilooko in appreciation for Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu gracing their ceremony presented a small gift of goat as per Chewa custom and tradition to take it home.

His Royal Highness Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu is the Patron of Bwalo la Chewa [BOLA-CEFO] the only voice of the Chewas in Malawi, registered as a local tribal grouping in 2018 and its first launch took place on 7th September, 2019 at the Community Centre ground in Dowa district.

The Chewas have been going to Kulamba annual cultural festivals at Mkaika in Eastern Province of Chipata in Zambia under the banner of Chewa Heritage Foundation, a Chewa tribal grouping which is not registered in Malawi and is being regarded as an international organization for the Chewas of Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi.
