With the country continuing to register suicide cases, Dedza Youth Action Movement has singled out the need to intensify initiatives that promote openness among peers in a bid to curb the problem.

Its chairperson, Edwin Golowa observes it has become a common practice among the youthful generation to take away their lives whenever they face challenges.

He emphansises on the need for government and relevant stakeholders to swiftly address the situation by creating deliberate efforts that would help to cushion the situation.

He was speaking when the grouping donated exercise books and other learning materials to Molima Family Home in Dedza district on Tuesday.

He believes such engagements provide a better platform for problem sharing among peers; a development he observes is part of ending the vice.

One of the students at Molima Family Home, Witness Symon described the donation as timely; saying the initiative would motivate them to work hard in their education.

On Monday, 26 December, 2022, 25 year old former third year Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences, Dickson Lester was found dead in Dedza district, a development police say the circumstances of the death, point to suicide.
