Extreme FC through to next round on penalties

Extreme FC emerged victorious in a highly contested match with fellow Mchinji based team, St. Gabriel Zitha FC, in round 32 of the FDH Bank Cup, winning the tie 5-4 through post-match penalties on Wednesday at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

After a goalless first half in which Extreme FC had the better attacking velvet, St Gabriel turned the tempo up in the second period by producing six chances that kept the Extreme goalie, MacLean Mwale, on his feet with the game ending 0-0 in regular time.

The game was decided on penalties and MacLean Mwale’s heroics were on full display after he saved St. Gabriel FC’s third penalty which was taken by Posiano Sam before Extreme FC’s Francis Black completed the perfect set of penalties to win the game.

Coach for Extreme FC, Elvis Kafoteka hailed his charges for the marginal victory but admitted elements of complacency throughout parts of the game.

Head Coach for St. Gabriel Zitha FC, Martin Mkamanga, said the defeat was painful since it came on the backdrop of a good performance.

Mkamanga refuted the idea of lack of experience from his strikers and attributed the lost to a bad day in the office.

Elsewhere in the cup, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets beat Ndirande All-stars 4-0, Moyale defeated Iponga 2-0 while Kamuzu Barracks toppled Karonga United 2-1.
