President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has commissioned the Golomoti Solar Power Plant in Dedza installed by JCM Power.

The company said the K33.8 billion plant will also provide some social services to surrounding areas.

The initial construction phase of the project employed 550 people from surrounding communities.

The project, with 52 thousand solar panels will produce 20 megawatts of electricity for the national grid.

According to Christian Wray, co-founder of JCM Power, the facility is unique with storage power of 5 megawatts from solar batteries that can be used even in cold weather, which he said is the first of its kind in Africa.

The co-founder who is also Chief Executive Officer for JCM power also hailed the working relationship with Malawi Government which has enabled electricity companies to export the generated power into the national grid.

“We have so far managed to do business with EGENCO and we hope to increase solar projects across Malawi,” said Wray.

The Golomoti Solar Power Plant is funded by JCM Power an American company working in different African countries.
