Jumbe says Mangochi’s detention Government has lost direction

President of Chilungamo Party Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe, says activist Lyton Mangochi’s detention by the Police is a symbol of a government that has lost its way saying his release will be the first step forward restoring the country’s collective faith in democracy.

Jumbe has called upon the MCP government to stop this slide into autocracy and be remembering that “the King who does not listen to his people will not reign for long” saying the people of this nation will not tolerate a return to one-party rule and they will not allow the clock of history to be turned back to the days of fear and oppression.

He says the road ahead will not be easy but Malawians must walk it with courage and conviction demanding justice, accountability, and the protection of their democratic ideas advising Malawians to stand together and demand the release of Lyton Mangochi.

Writing on his face book page, Alhaji Jumbe says demanding the release of Mangochi from police custody is not about for a person but it is about protecting, safeguarding the country’s democracy urging Malawians to hold their leaders accountable and ensure that their democracy remains intact.

Jumbe has warned Malawians that if they allow injustice to thrive, they will all suffer its consequences collectively and they shall perish as the nation advising Malawians to root it out and rebuild a nation founded on justice, freedom, and truth, the time is now, together, they can, and must serve their democracy.

He says today, Malawi is standing at a crossroads, teetering on the edge of losing the hard-won freedoms that define it observing that the arrest of activist Lyton Mangochi and the continued harassment of opposition politicians and activists is one among examples of dying democracy itself.

The Party President has urged Malawians to rise to the occasion and demand accountability, for silence in the face of injustice is complicity, democracy under-siege, saying democracy is the heartbeat of any free nation.

Jumbe has advised the MCP government to stop using public funds to oppress the people describing it as both ironic and tragic that the taxes paid by hard-working citizens are being used to fund the very machinery that oppress them.

“Governance is not about wielding power, it is about servicing the people, arresting activists and opposition politicians who dare to speak out is not governance, it is tyranny,” reads the writings of Alhaji Jumbe on the wall.

He says the voices of the oppressed will grow louder, and justice will prevail claiming that the immediate release of activist Lytone Mangochi is not just a demand, it is a moral obligation, a cry for justice: the urgent need to restore democracy in Malawi.
