Mabedi Confident Ahead Of Zambia Encounter

By Romeo Umali–LILONGWE

Flames Coach Patrick Mabedi still thinks his charges can pull a surprise against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in their first COSAFA Cup game in Durban, South Africa tommorow if they stick to a well-crafted game plan.

Mabedi has in 25-member squad majority of locally based players except Chawanangwa Kaonga and Chikondi Mphasi.

He believes this should be the way to go if Malawi wants to genuinely build a competitive future Flames.

“Zambia is a formidable opponent, boasting an impressive roster of experienced athletes. However, if we remain steadfast in our strategic approach, victory is within our grasp,” he said after the team’s first training outside.

Malawi is in Group B alongside Zambia, Comoros and Seychelles.

But the Flames have had no friendly match ahead of the COSAFA Cup games.

However, Mabedi might be banking on the lessons from the recent Flames Africa Cup of Nations game against Ethiopia that saw both sides booted out.

The COSAFA Cup games kick off today with Group A fixtures as Botswana take on Eswantini at 3PM while the hosts, South Africa are up against Namibia later at 6PM.
