Machinga District Grappling With Malnutrition

Lack of enough resources including food supplements has trapped Machinga District Hospital into a struggle to meaningfully deal with malnutrition situation which health authorities describe as worrisome.

Hospital spokesperson, Clifton Ngozo disclosed this when the facility received a donation of Vitamin packages for under five children and pregnant women worth K700, 000 from Bishop George Kunyenje of Liwonde Living Waters Church on Monday.

He emphasized the need for serious collaboration to improve the malnutrition status of the district.

“The malnutrition status of the district continues to be worresome due to incapacitation of the government in terms of drugs and other food suppliments to carter for the whole district.

“We are failing as a district to make it in this fight because of the resources but we can do better if we have well-wishers like Kunyenje who would come in and give a hand,” said Ngozo.

Bishop Kunyenje said he believed in giving just as the Bible teaches about hence the donation.

“We are not just a church to serve people spiritually only but we serve physically too. We have just started with little but more is coming and we will work hand in hand with them towards quality health services delivery,” pledged Kunyenje.
