MEHA AGM Ushers In New Leadership

The just-ended Malawi Environmental Health Association (MEHA) Conference and Annual General Meeting has elected new office bearers led by Dr Save Kumwenda of Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences.

This follows the expiry of the tenure of office for the former president, Dr Elias Chimulambe and his team who has led the association for thee years.

The outgoing president encouraged the new leadership to advance environmental health agenda as a way of ensuring quality public health services delivery.

“Environmental health focuses primarily on prevention. If we scale up our activities in communities, we should be assured of a healthy nation,” said Chimulambe.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Kumwenda applauded the outgoing committee for the job well done and challenged the newly ushered executive committee to deliver.

“We are picking up from where our friends left. The task is enormous but we are committed to taking MEHA to new heights. For this to materialise we will need the support of the entire membership. Let me implore other members who are inactive to live up to the calling and serve the country through MEHA. In addition, let us honour our commitments in terms of membership fees,” said Kumwenda.

The new executive committee is made up of President Dr Save Kumwenda, Vice President, Peter Kamuloni, General Secretary, Dr Owen Nkoka, Publicity Secretary, Rossanie Daudi Malolo, Treasurer Synate Simwinga and Vice Treasurer, Samson Kumphale.

The AGM also elected the following committee members: Dr Kondwani Chidziwitsano, Semu Kholora, Nelson Kumwenda and Joseph Jangiya.

MEHA is a member-driven organisation. The association was first registered as Public Health Inspectors Association of Malawi (PHIAM) in 1990 and was changed to Environmental Health Association of Malawi on 23 June 2009.
