Minister Address Malawians On Tithetse Cholera Campaign

Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 and Cholera led by Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda is briefing the nation on Tithetse Cholera Campaign.

Other ministers present include that of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia and Justice, Titus Mvalo and other stakeholders who are on a drive to end the cholera outbreak.

Chiponda says so far the country has registered a decrease in deaths of cholera patients whose fatality rate is now at 3.2 percent.

The campaign seeks to reach out to all 49,000 villages across the country so that the fight against cholera should be meaningful and councils are to be re-energised to ensure messages of prevention are well articulated in the communities.

The Health Minister says Chlorine and ORS distribution will be enhanced in the campaign. She has disclosed that UNICEF has supported Malawi Government with over K2 billion towards combating cholera.

A total of 2,000 Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) will be recruited to help the other 12,000 already in the system.

The Tithetse Cholera Campaign was launched on 13 February 2023.
