MP Kalitendere Addresses Nselema Police Water Woes

By Yamikani Harji–MACHINGA

Prolonged water woes that inmates at Nselama Police in Machinga District were subjected to could be lessened following a donation of a water pump at the facility to mitigate the challenge.

Machinga North lawmaker, Richard Ajiru Kalitendere has intervened on the problem using Constituency Development Fund-CDF amounting to K900 000; an initiative expected to even benefit surrounding communities.

Spokesperson for Machinga Police, Western Kansire hails the legislator for the donation; saying the situation had reached worsening levels.

“We are very much happy to receive this pump from our Member of Parliament. This shows he is a patriotic citizen. We have suffered a lot for two solid months without portable water and it was hard especially for female inmates in our custody,” says Kansire.

He adds some unknown people burnt down the previous water pump and that they are still investigating the matter to arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, Kalitendere believes a community without good security cannot progress in development hence the donation to ensure smooth operations of the station.

“As an authority I thought it wise that I help our officers especially in provision of portable water sources as it has been a great challenge in their course of operations. These people are doing a great job worthy embracing,” says Kalitendere.
