A new cross-country record has been set by 20-year-old Chikondi Mwenyali who is the new Champion for 10-kilometre National Cross Country after beating Macdonald Maganizo, Chancy Masitala and others in the Senior Category.
Chikondi said he is eyeing international competitions to put Malawi on the Map of World Athletics.
In the Senior Women Category, Asimenye Simwaka emerged as the winner after beating 8 other girls including last year’s champion Nalise Chirwa.
In Junior Category, Frank Gondwe of Mzuzu and Ester Mtambo from Chitipa were winners in boys and girls cross country competitions.
The Malawi National Council of Sports organised a 2023 National Cross Country Competition in Mzuzu.
The participants were from different parts of the country.
This coming Sunday, Mzuzu City is expected to host its first-ever 21 kilometres Half Marathon.
