The People’s Party (PP) convention for 2024 is currently taking place at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe. Delegates at the convention have begun casting their votes for leadership positions within the party.
According to the list released by the party yesterday, 15 key positions are being contested, though there are a total of 31 seats available within the party’s main committee. Reports suggest that the number of contested positions could increase, as 16 positions currently remain uncontested.
In contrast to other political parties, the PP has chosen not to use the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to oversee the voting process. Instead, they have enlisted the services of EMJ Audit Firm to manage the election.
Joyce Banda, the current leader of the People’s Party, has already cast her vote and briefly left the venue, with plans to return once the voting process concludes.
The PP convention is expected to shape the party’s direction ahead of the 2025 elections, with the outcomes eagerly awaited by members and supporters alike
