Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda has assured the nation that government will recover the K750 million following the 2022/23 fertiliser procurement glitches under the Affordable Inputs Programme. In an interview with MBC, Chakaka Nyirenda who is leading the recovery of the funds in Germany said the government has engaged an extra gear to have the full amount recovered and currently part of the amount is already remitted into government coffers. "My assurance to the nation is that the money would be fully recovered. $182,000 ( K186 million) has already been recovered. The remaining $543,000 (K564 million) is still frozen in Germany. Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda has refused to pay Norman Chisale, former president Peter Mutharika’s body guard, K500 million for compensation in an attempted murder case which he was acquitted. Nyirenda says state was not wrong to prosecute Chisale although he was acquitted, adding that he is ready for defense if Chisale proceeds to court with the matter. Lawyer for Chisale, Chauncy Gondwe, says he is yet to receive a response from the attorney general for the case which his client is demanding the compensation for alleged false imprisonment, malicious prosecution and defamation.

This follows a decision by DPP Member of Parliament for Mangochi South West Shadreck Namalomba to obtain a stay order restraining the speaker from recognizing decisions implemented by the leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa without written approval of the party.
