The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has challenged local health authorities to engage an extra gear in its population management drive as a matter of urgency.

The observation follows an International Conference on Population and Development – ICPD steering committee meeting involving stakeholders in the health sector.

The UNFPA’s resident representative to Malawi Won Young Hong, has emphasized that the country’s efforts towards attainment of development goals hinge on the authorities’ resolve to manage its population growth including eliminating teen pregnancies and an absolute ban on child marriages.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Khumbize Chiponda has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges by increasing family planning budgets.
