Substandard Work Derail Development- Mayor

Zomba City Mayor Dave Maunde has cautioned contractors assigned to upgrade roads in the old capital against doing substandard work.

Maunde says the council will not hesitate to cancel contracts where oworkers do not adhere to minimum standards.

The Zomba City father has indicated that the council will intensify regular monitoring and inspection of the road construction works to ensure there is no comprising on standards.

He made the remarks during the handover of sites to three firms contracted to work on the Sikinala-Chakhaza Road, Kalimbuka Ring Road and Likangala-Mpondabwino Road.

Government is funding the works with K4.1 billion.

“Shoddy works derail development, since such projects require extra funds for renovations, thereby draining government resources which would have been channelled to other equally important projects,” Maunde said.

Pams Construction Managing Director Patrick Mbalame, whose firm has been assigned the Sikinala-Chakhaza Road, pledged to do a good job.
