Human rights activists have written the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament to review the issue of the leaked audio of the conversation between the Anti-Corruption Bureau director general Martha Chizuma and a citizen known as Anderson Mwakiyelu.
This comes only a few days after the calling on President Lazarus Chakwera to act on the recommendations made in the commission of inquiry report that was investigatin the arrest of Chizuma on December 6, 2022.
Mkwezalamba signs the letter before handing it over
Briefing journalists at Parliament when they went to present the letter today, the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) board chairman Robert Mkwezalamba said their calls are aimed at bringing the matter to a logical conclusion using the laws.
He said: “we are mindful of the powers and mandate of Parliament over appointed public officers, but we did not want to prescribe the conditions and the areas under which they can act on this particular matter.
“But as part of the appointing authority, they have a duty and a responsibility to have an interface meeting with all parties involved, in particular the director of ACB, and try to ensure that the matter is legally disposed
