In fulfilment and maintaining Late Lingson Belekanyama’s idea of supporting local christian choirs in his Msinja South constituency, Member of Parliament(MP) for the area Francis Belekanyama has promised the choirs of his continued support in their activities.
Francis who is son to the departed Belekanyama said this at Myasei ground in Lilongwe where awarded choirs who have emerged the best in a choir competition he conducted in his constituency.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MP, said his father loved singing in a choir in the Catholic Church no wonder he became patron of many choirs during his tenure as the MP for the area.
The young Belekanyama said, “choir competition will help his constituents to promoting love and unity which was one of the pillars of his father,”
“As family decided to come up with choir competition as one way of honouring and respecting our late Lingson Belekanyama, it will be our tradition as we will be continuing organising choir competition from different choirs despite their denomination,” said Belekanyama.
In his remarks one of the Judges from Musicians Union of Malawi Anthony Dumba stated that the competition has helped choirs to improve in terms of performance, confidence and to consider singing as a career unlike before where they were just taking singing as a hobby.
The competition had over 35 choirs from the constituency and best choir received a trophy and money amounting to K250, 000.
The event was graced by Gospel artists like Favoured Martha, Carlo Kadzuwa and Kondwani Chirwa.
The competition was sponsored to the tune of 4.5 million kwacha where as 1.5 million kwacha will be for Catholic choirs in the constituency.
