A renowned governance and human rights advocate, Undule Mwakasungula has joined calls by some quarters of football lovers in the country calling for immediate firing of Malawi National Football team head coach Marian Mario Marinica.
Mwakasungula says it is not a secret that the Flames have been performing poorly since the Romanian was recruited, adding it is sad that Football Association of Malawi (FAM) continue to back him despite the poor results.
Mwakasungula has called on the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to have confidence in local coaches and help them in building their capacity, as “from experience local coaches, with full support, have shown they can deliver.”
The Flames’ chances of qualifying for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Ivory Coast have shattered as the team has 3 points from 4 games, while Group D leaders Guinea and second placed Egypt have 9 points each from same number of games.
Flames will host Guinea at home before travelling to Ethiopian to complete it’s fixtures, and Marinica’s contract comes to an end early next month but asked through the press for a longer contract (5 years) to deliver.
