LILONGWE – UTM presidential aspirant Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka formally presented his nomination papers today at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe. With a message targeting the upcoming 2025 elections, Dr. Mtumbuka urged Malawians to reject “recycled politicians” and support new leaders who can tackle the country’s economic and social issues with fresh ideas and genuine commitment.
Dr. Mtumbuka, a well-respected figure in technology and business management, emphasized that Malawi requires a “Chief Executive Officer” type of leadership to address the nation’s complex challenges. He highlighted that his decision to pursue the UTM presidency reflects his vision for a more capable and action-oriented approach in the political landscape.
Addressing delegates who will attend the UTM elective convention on 17th November, Dr. Mtumbuka called for careful consideration in choosing leaders based on merit and effectiveness. He stressed that the convention’s decisions could shape UTM’s ability to contend powerfully in the next elections, aiming to present a team that reflects competency and commitment to Malawi’s progress.
“My vision is to see Malawi prosper,” Dr. Mtumbuka stated. “But that requires leadership with proven managerial skills and the dedication to serve the people above all else.”
The upcoming convention, anticipated to bring together UTM members from across Malawi, will set the stage for the party’s direction ahead of the 2025 elections. Dr. Mtumbuka’s bold stance sets a competitive tone for UTM’s presidential race, where his managerial perspective and anti-establishment message could resonate widely among both delegates and voters seeking a departure from the country’s traditional political frameworks.
