Former President and leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, addressed a large gathering at Thambani Grounds in Mwanza during his visit to the district.
Upon his arrival, Mutharika was welcomed by senior DPP officials, including the party’s Secretary General Peter Mukhito, Southern Region Vice President Joseph Mwanamvekha, veteran politician Francis Mphepo, and former Kuzambwe Constituency Member of Parliament, Paul Chibingu. The warm reception highlighted the support and enthusiasm of party members in the district.
In his address, Mutharika emphasized the need for unity within the party as they prepare for the 2025 elections. He called on supporters to remain steadfast and committed to the DPP’s vision for restoring economic stability and addressing the challenges facing Malawi.

Following the rally at Thambani, Mutharika proceeded to address more supporters at Chiwembu Grounds and Mwanza Boma. These gatherings underscored the DPP’s determination to reconnect with its grassroots supporters and address their concerns directly.
The presence of Paul Chibingu, who recently rejoined the DPP after a stint with the UTM Party, was also a focal point of the event. Chibingu’s return to the party is expected to strengthen the DPP’s position in Mwanza and boost its preparations for the upcoming elections.
