Sunbird Hotels is set to complete its ambitious expansion projects in Salima and Mangochi by June 2025, adding 120 rooms and a state-of-the-art mega conference center.

Head of Sales, Marketing, and Distribution, Temwa Kanjadza, revealed this during a customer appreciation cocktail event held in Blantyre on Tuesday. She highlighted the company’s strategic focus on expanding its capacity to better serve the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) market.

Kanjadza disclosed that Sunbird Livingstonia and Sunbird Waterfront in Salima will open a new conference facility in March 2025, accommodating up to 840 people and featuring six breakout rooms. “This facility will meet the growing demand for modern conference spaces in Malawi, especially in Salima,” she said.

Additionally, by June 2025, the company plans to unveil 120 new rooms, with 60 at Sunbird Livingstonia and 60 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi. The expansions aim to bolster the hotel’s room inventory, ensuring adequate support for its expanding conference and hospitality offerings.

The cocktail event, a gesture of appreciation for Sunbird Hotels’ loyal customers, also featured a prize giveaway. Dollas Mkutumula emerged as one of the lucky winners and will enjoy a fully sponsored stay at Sunbird Waterfront in Salima.

Sunbird Hotels’ expansion is expected to significantly boost tourism and business activities in Malawi, solidifying its position as a leader in the hospitality sector.
