Strong winds, accompanied by heavy rains, have caused significant damage to Chizimia Primary School and several homes around Embangweni in Mzimba District. The destructive weather occurred yesterday, leaving the community devastated.
Faith Longwe, the Disaster Risk Management Officer at M’mbelwa District Council, confirmed the extent of the damage, stating that her team is currently on the ground assessing the situation. The team is gathering details to quantify the damage and ensure a proper and timely response.
Longwe further advised the public to prioritize building strong, resilient structures to withstand future weather events, as strong winds are expected to persist during the 2024/25 rainy season.
The community, still reeling from the destruction, will now rely on government and humanitarian efforts to rebuild and recover from the damages caused by the severe weather. Authorities are committed to providing the necessary assistance to those affected.
