A Concerned Citizen of Malawi Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe, has written an open letter to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to remind him to honor the Rule of Law and uphold democracy that this is a time to feed the hungry and heal the nation, not to sharpen weapons of political warfare.
Jumbe has noted with a great concern that as Malawians die of hunger, the currency weakens, and the reserves of forex vanish, Chakwera’s government appears distracted by targeting political opponents rather than addressing the pressing needs of the people.
He says the politics of intimidations, harassment and selective arrests that Malawians are seeing today, are wasted on political battles while the nation is crumbling under hunger, fuel shortages, and a collapsing economy.
Writing on his face book page, Comrade Alhaji Jumbe has advised President Chakwera that when one ascends to the throne, he should not despise those who elevated him, saying the power he holds comes from the people, and the people are watching.
Alhaji Jumbe says selective justice is no justice at all saying while President Chakwera is targeting certain individuals in the opposition party, corruption is festering in the corridors of power of his MCP led government.
He says the people see these injustices and remember “a snake’s breath never cools” saying President Chakwera’s reactions will linger in the minds of Malawians, and their verdict will be clear in the coming September, General Elections.
The Concerned Citizen says the foundation of any great leader is the ability to listen and to act justly saying bravery is not self-serving, it is for the good of others, it is time to show the leadership by prioritizing the needs of Malawians above all else.
“People are tired, starving, and losing hope, the cost of living is unbearable, and the promise of a better Malawi one feels like a distant dream,” reads Jumbe’s writing on the wall.
Jumbe has warned President Chakwera that if he continues to wage this senseless battles at the expense of the citizens suffering, history will remember him not as the deliverer but as the betrayer urging him to stop these divisive practices, focus on the people’s needs and honor the democracy that brought him to power in June, 2020.
