Activist Pastor Moses Shumba-the Lion of Judah, has called on the UTM, well-wishers and business people from Karonga to do something for Lytone Mangochi who is in police custody in Mzuzu to be released on Friday24th January, 2025 and continue his activism in Karonga,
Pastor Shumba said on Monday 20th January, 2025 Mangochi appeared before the Mzuzu Magistrate Court and it was heartbreaking to see him standing in court without a lawyer to represent him saying he pleaded for bail which was rejected to Friday 24th January,2025.
He said Mangochi is a bona fide member of the UTM saying spending 3 days in police custody with no UTM official visiting him is bad omen to the entire leadership of the party hence an appeal to the party to do something to arrested Mangochi.
Speaking through an audio clip, Pastor Shumba said if Mangochi had a lawyer representing him on Monday, something could have happened either to wait for bail application ruling in the afternoon or the following day morning, which was Tuesday.
Pastor Shumba has proposed for the formation of a strong activist body in Malawi which can be representing its members in circumstances Mangochi is in saying this is a great lesson to all activists that they should have readily available lawyer to represent them in court.
“I am pleading with the UTM, well-wishers, and all social media users to contribute a little resource to hire a lawyer for Mangochi to be freed on Friday,” he said.
He has accused MCPs Publicity Secretary Dr. Jessie Kabwila to respect herself for others to respect her saying being a woman, she was supposed to be behave like a woman and not as a man without the head.
The activist said what Kabwila said referring Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as too old to stand for elections describing her statement as an insult and teaching young people not to respect the elders, one being Professor Mutharika.
“God must touch you with a hand of repentance for you don’t know what is coming tomorrow, and what is around you,” said Pastor Shumba.
He said Professor Mutharika is a statesman, after losing the elections in June, 2020 he went quietly to his Page House in Mangochi assuring Malawians that this cannot happen with President Chakwera who promised to resign after two years of failing Malawians but he is still President of the country.
The activist has dismissed claims made by Dr. Jessie Kabwila that the DPP is abusing Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika by forcing him to stand in the September, 2025 General Elections saying the truth of the matter is MCP is forcing President Chakwera to stand in the elections which he will lose miserably. .
