A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has advised President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to institute an independent Committee comprising of people with integrity to investigate billions of Kwachas which have been plundered by some crooked Malawians following Amaryllis Hotel acquisition.

Kamphangala said from K47 billion to K128 billion Amaryllis Hotel sale theft, was not done by MCP alone, individuals in the DPP are part of the syndicate hence a call to institute an independent Committee.

23 PAC members adopts Amaryllis Hotel sale Report

He said the leaked inquiry Report on the acquisition of Amaryllis Hotel has not come out with identities of people behind the corruption scheme but only recommendations which are not in the interest of Malawians.

The MCP diehard said the Report in itself is lacking credibility that the 23 members of the committee adopted it on 31st March, 2026 while other stakeholders were not interviewed saying this alone has brought suspicion that other people are being shielded from being interviewed.

He said with the emerging issues of reported corruption to the Anti – Corruption Bureau (ACB) the DPP has been put on a litmus test for its fight against corruption advising Mutharika to live by his words to shield no one.

He said millions of Malawians voted for Professor Mutharika with hope that he will bring in a new Malawi for everyone to enjoy unlike the MCP era of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera where only a chosen few were singing the popular song ” Boma ndilomweli silikuchoka mpakana 2084,”

Kamphangala said it is sad that within six months of the DPP and President Professor Mutharika in government, Malawians are feeling the same pain as they were in the MCP government where issues of corruption scandals blanketed the whole of Chakwera’s cabinet from State House to Capital Hill.

He said President Professor Mutharika has nothing to lose, advising him to make sure that his legacy is being protected from the influence of some DPP senior members who are doing everything possible that his name be dragged into disrepute that he is a failed leader to end corruption in Malawi and he too, is corrupt.

The MCP diehard has questioned President Professor Mutharika on why is taking too long to fire all suspected corrupt ministers in his government and what he is waiting for, saying Malawians are watching and are anxiously waiting to see some of his children be entering the corridors of Maula Prison as a clear demonstration that he is another Mutharika not that of yesterday.

” Over K5.5 billion was withdrawn in cash from the Public Service Pension Trust Fund (PSPTF) through the National Bank of Malawi) between January and March, 2026,” said Kamphangala.

He said this money was withdrawn from the Bank by the DPP saying this should be a start to arrest and prosecute all who have done this theft and thereafter, going back to the others who committed similar offences in the past including MCP members.

Kamphangala has warned Mutharika that Malawians will judge the DPP in 2030 in the way it has handled corruption cases in relation to Amaryllis Hotel sale, Sigerege hotel and the famous fresh commission of inquiry on circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others, in the Chikangawa forest.

Kamphangala has finally advised Professor Mutharika that time to walk with Malawians is now, place all Amaryllis Hotel sale thieves behind bars saying this will send a strong signal to the world that Mutharika does not condone corruption but failing which, he should stop mentioning fighting corruption in his speeches.
