Ben Phiri Promise Transparency in CDF Use
The tournament, unveiled in Thyolo Central Constituency, is aimed at nurturing raw talent and strengthening football structures at community level — a move seen as a significant boost to the district’s sporting future.

Phiri said the initiative aligns with the government’s K50 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation for sports, a programme championed by former State President to promote youth development through athletics.

“This trophy is about giving young players a platform to showcase their abilities and pursue football as a career,” Phiri said. “We want to see talent from Thyolo rising to national and even international levels.”
Senior Traditional Authority Kwanjana welcomed the development, saying the competition will play a key role in identifying hidden talent across the constituency.

“This is an opportunity for our youth to be discovered and grow. Football can change lives, and this tournament brings that hope closer to our communities,” said Kwanjana.
Thyolo District Commissioner Noel Dakamau also hailed the initiative, highlighting its broader impact beyond sport. He noted that the tournament will serve as a foundation for establishing a district football team while stimulating local economic activity through increased business during match days.
