Prolonged loadshedding is expected in some parts of the country as power producer EGENCO is yet to finalise repair of its Kapichira Power Station in Chikwawa.
According to ESCOM, the national grid has been short of 130 megawatts of power since tropical cyclone Ana hit over a month ago.
Officials from EGENCO earlier revealed that they will require K18 billion to get the damaged power station up and running again.
Furthermore, it would take about 6 months to repair a dam that stores water for the station.
ESCOM’s Public Relations Manager, Innocent Chitosi indicates that the power they are getting from EGENCO is still on the lower side, hence the continued rationing.
EGENCO’s Public Relations Manager Moses Gwaza was not available for comment.
