JOHNSON SAYS HE WILL FACE MPS TO ‘SET RECORD STRAIGHT’ AFTER BEING FINED OVER PARTYGATE

Tomorrow will mark Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s 1,000th day in downing street – the same day he will apologise to Parliament for breaking his own Covid laws.

His backers praise him for being the Prime Minister who “got Brexit done”.

However, for his critics, the irony that he is spending the anniversary acknowledging his failing is not lost on them.

When Johnson came into office on 24 July 2019, he promised to “restore trust” in democracy and “unify” Britain by “working flat out” to lead the country.

Since then we have seen disputes regarding donors, MP behaviour, and of course, Partygate.

There have also been countless contentious policies from axing free school meals for children, sending refugees to Rwanda and more than 40 U-turns.

1,000 days later, leading historian Peter Hennessy said the PM has, “broken the law, misled Parliament, and has in effect shredded the Ministerial Code”, telling the BBC : “The Queen’s First Minister is now beyond doubt a rogue Prime Minister, unworthy of her, her Parliament, her people and her Kingdom.”

Despite what seems like endless news, Johnson has not even been in office as long as Gordon Brown
