A grouping calling itself Friends of Uladi Mussa is demanding President Lazarus Chakwera, Attorney General and Minister of Justice to immediately release the former Home Affairs Minister.
Its chairperson Sheikh Imuran Shereef Mahomed claims during a media briefing in Mangochi that Mussa was arrested on political grounds.
Mussa and former Regional Immigration Officer (Centre) David Kwanjana were each handed prison sentences of 12 months for neglecting public duties and five years for abuse of public office.
Ironically, the grouping claims the court records they have seen lack evidence that Mussa breached any law of Immigration and Citizenship Act when he was accused of illegally influencing the issuing of passports to foreign nationals.
“Mussa applied for bail application from the Supreme Court of Appeal but two years down the line, he is yet to get a response,” argues Sheikh Mohamed.
