NCIC Partners MUBAS To Leverage The Construction Industry

The National Construction Industry Council of Malawi (NCIC) has partnered with the Malawi University of Business And Applied Sciences (MUBAS) to launch a clerk of works programme.

Vice-Chancellor for MUBAS, Nancy Chitera, said the university produces engineers every year however it has been noted that there’s a gap in service delivery hence the signing of the MOU to develop curriculum and launch the Clerk of Works Programme.

“The University believes in innovation and creativity as one way of realizing pillar number three in Malawi 2063, we believe the development of the curriculum and launching of the Clerk of Works Programme at the university will help to close the gap of skilled workforce in the industry,’ said Chitera.

On his Part Chief executive officer for NCIC, Engineer Gerald Khonje said Mubas should be commended for producing most of the professionals in the sector as such the new partnership with NCIC will ease the shortage of well-trained supervisors.

“Let me applaud MUBAS for the good job they have done and continue doing in serving the nation. We hope that the shortage of supervisors in the field will be history when this programme is launched and graduates the required personnel in the field. We hope to continue collaborating so that we close the gaps currently experienced in the industry,” said Khonje.

The idea for the Clerk of Works Programme was conceptualized by NCIC in 2014 after noting quality gaps in the construction industry.
