Chimwendo Challenges Corporate World To Use Sport To address Social Challenges

Minister of Youth and Sports Richard Chimwendo Banda has challenged the corporate world and organisations to use sport to address social challenges.

Chimwendo Banda made the remarks ahead of today’s Ufulu friendly involving Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe which Nzika Foundation has organised.

“Football or any other sport has the capacity to generate income if well used. I am pleased with how Nzika Foundation uses football to generate funds and then channel the proceeds to charitable cause. This is what other organisations should be doing,” he said.

Meanwhile, both Silver and Bullets have vowed to use their best players to win the game.

Silver interim coach Macdonald Yobe said reputation was at stake and winning the match was their ultimate mission.

“Of course some of our players are with the Flames at Cosafa Cup in South Africa. We are using the friendly to assess the squad ahead of the second round but we also want to win because bragging rights are at stake,” he said.

Silver have potential match winners like Maxwell Phodo Gasten and Duncan Nyoni.

Bullets Assistant Coach Peter Mponda made similar statements.

“As Bullets our fans always want us to win. It is our plan to give other players a chance to show what they can do. The message is simple we do not depend on individuals but we play as a team,” he said.

Bullets have a youthful squad but talisman Babatunde Adepoju will likely be given a chance to showcase his talent.

Nzika Foundation has been involved in charity work. Last month, the body donated construction materials to Nyamadzere Model Primary School for the construction of a classroom block with two classrooms.

The body raised K42 million from a two-day Pamtsetse Football Bonanza which attracted the country’s top four clubs; Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Civil Sporting Club to help flood survivors in Nsanje and Chikwawa.

Silver won the bonanza after beating Wanderers in the final.“`
