Chakwera Calls For Selfless Service

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to emulate the spirit of selflessness that was in Reverend John Chilembwe who gave up many luxuries for the sake of others.

Dr Chakwera was speaking at the Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) in Chiradzulu as he led Malawians in celebrating the life of Reverend Chilembwe.

President Chakwera said there is a need for Malawians to love one another to receive true healing from God.

“There was a lot to learn from Chilembwe who gave up many luxuries and personal interests for the sake of his countrymen. It is for this reason that every year homage is paid to Reverend Chilembwe at his Providence Industrial Mission in Chiradzulu.

The President was in the company of First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera, Vice President Dr Saulos Chakwera and other high-profile dignitaries.

Speaking, earlier President of the PIM, Reverend Wilson Mitambo, commended President Chakwera for fulfilling his promises of constructing tombstones for the mother of the late John Chilembwe, Lepesyawo Nyangu, and his sister Mrs Malikebu during last year’s celebrations.

Annually, 15 January is historical to Malawi as it is a day set aside to commemorate one of the sons of the soil who died in the struggle for freedom and a fight against white supremacy and colonialism in 1915. The commemorations were held under the theme: ‘Heal us, Lord.’
