Government requests 7 days for investigation completion

By Suleiman Chitera

Lilongwe, Malawi – The government has requested the court to grant them an additional seven days to conclude their ongoing investigations in a case involving Patricia Kaliati. If approved, this request would result in Kaliati remaining in police custody until the investigation is complete.

Government prosecutors argued that releasing Kaliati at this stage could compromise the case, expressing concerns that she might interfere with key witnesses if set free.

Currently, Khwima Mchizi, the legal representative for Patricia Kaliati, is responding to the government’s request, opposing the extension of her detention.

Further updates will follow as the court considers the application.
