Jumbe Penns Malawi Electoral Commission

MY OPEN LETTER TO THE CHAIRPERSON MALAWI ELECTORAL COMMISSION (MEC)

By Comrade Jumbe

Subject: Final Notice to Address Electoral Irregularities or Face Immediate Legal Action

Dear Madam,

I write to you as a concerned citizen of the Republic of Malawi and as a defender of our hard-won democracy.

It is with great urgency that I convey this final notice to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to act immediately on grave electoral concerns that jeopardize the credibility of the forthcoming September 2025 general elections.

Despite previous public communication, no adequate action has been taken to address the critical concerns raised.

I hereby formally demand the following actions to be implemented without delay:

  1. Fresh Voter Registration:
The recent voter registration exercise was gravely compromised, with numerous names missing from the Southern Region voters’ roll while, in contrast, multiple duplications of names have been detected in the Central Region.
A complete fresh voter registration is therefore necessary to guarantee credibility.
  2. Removal of Smartmatic Machines:
No Smartmatic technology should be used for counting, transmission, or any part of the electoral process.
  3. Removal of Partisan Figures from MEC Leadership:
Immediate removal of individuals who are politically affiliated, notably those aligned with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The recent photographic evidence of yourself as a chairperson at State House raises serious questions about the neutrality of the Commission.
  4. Extension of the Voter Registration Period:
The previous registration window was insufficient and disenfranchised many eligible voters.
It must be reopened and extended.
  5. Audit Access to the Voter Roll:
Citizens must be granted access to audit the voters’ register to verify its accuracy, integrity, and completeness.

If the above concerns are not satisfactorily addressed within the shortest possible time, I will have no alternative but to immediately seek legal redress by applying for an injunction to halt the September elections.

Please be advised that this action will be taken not out of animosity, but in strict adherence to the duty of every citizen to defend the Constitution, democracy, and the will of the people.

“When the people are denied transparency, democracy is buried.”

I trust that MEC will take this final warning seriously and act in the best interest of all Malawians.

Yours faithfully,

A Concerned Citizen and Defender of Democracy
