MCP Dares DPP to Prove Cash Handout Claims Against President Chakwera

By Burnett Munthali

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has challenged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to present evidence supporting its claims that President Lazarus Chakwera is distributing cash to individuals across the country.

This follows accusations made by the DPP that the President is handing out K50,000 to individuals, allegedly using taxpayers’ money.

The DPP contends that such actions do little to resolve Malawi’s pressing and broader economic and social challenges.

However, the MCP has dismissed these claims as baseless and politically motivated.

Speaking to MIJ Online, MCP Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwira rejected the allegations and came to the defense of President Chakwera.

Kabwira stated that President Chakwera remains committed to meaningful engagement with Malawians from all walks of life.

She emphasized that the President has opened up critical communication channels, particularly for civil servants, to directly raise their concerns and participate in governance.

According to Kabwira, this participatory approach to leadership is aimed at building a better and more inclusive Malawi.

She further argued that the DPP’s discomfort with President Chakwera stems from the contrasting leadership style his administration has embraced.

Kabwira accused the DPP of having failed to provide similar avenues for dialogue during its time in power, especially for civil servants.

She pointed out that during the DPP’s rule, such engagement between government leaders and public servants was largely non-existent.

The MCP maintains that the DPP’s allegations are a desperate attempt to discredit the President’s leadership and distract from the administration’s efforts to foster transparency and accountability.

Kabwira concluded by urging the DPP to focus on constructive criticism and provide verifiable proof if they are to be taken seriously by Malawians.
