Malawi has officially entered the campaign season for the 2025 General Elections following an announcement by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson, Justice Annabelle Mtalimanja.

Speaking at the campaign launch ceremony held in Lilongwe, Mtalimanja confirmed that the campaign period will span 60 days—from 14th July to 14th September 2025.

She noted that this campaign window offers political parties and independent candidates a vital opportunity to connect with voters across the country.

According to Mtalimanja, this is the time for candidates to clearly articulate their manifestos and present solutions to the nation’s pressing issues.

She emphasized that campaigns must be conducted within the boundaries of the law and in line with the political Code of Conduct.

Mtalimanja warned against the use of personal attacks, incitement, and divisive rhetoric, stating that campaigns should be based on policies and development agendas.

She urged voters to take an active interest by attending rallies, listening to different platforms, and making informed choices ahead of the polls on 16th September 2025.

The MEC Chairperson assured the public of the Commission’s readiness to administer a credible, inclusive, and peaceful electoral process.

She also appealed to security agencies, the media, religious leaders, and civil society organizations to play a neutral and constructive role during the campaign season.

Mtalimanja stressed that transparency, discipline, and equal access to campaign platforms are key to fostering public confidence.

Her declaration officially sets the tone for two months of political engagement, where candidates are expected to focus
