Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has officially unveiled its new premium bottled water brand, Dzalanyama Springs, as part of the institution’s ongoing reforms in line with government agreements.

Speaking during the launch, Chief Executive Officer, Silli Mbewe, said the project is a major step toward strengthening the financial sustainability of the utility while also creating job opportunities for Malawians.
“It has taken us a capital cost of K4 billion to implement this project,” said Mbewe. “The product has been designed to fill an existing gap in water quality within the sector.”
Commitment to Quality and Service
Mbewe assured customers that the introduction of Dzalanyama Springs will not affect or compromise the quality of water services that Lilongwe Water Board already provides to its consumers. Instead, the bottled water initiative has been developed to complement LWB’s existing services and respond to the growing demand for safe, reliable, and premium drinking water in Malawi.

Environmental Sustainability Efforts
As part of the initiative, LWB has also emphasized its commitment to environmental sustainability. The utility will implement a buy-back program for plastic bottles, ensuring that bottles collected from the market are recycled. This approach is expected to reduce plastic waste and promote a cleaner environment while supporting the circular economy.
Economic and Social Impact
The launch of Dzalanyama Springs is expected to create multiple economic benefits, including direct and indirect employment opportunities for Malawians. By diversifying its services, LWB aims to improve financial stability while contributing to national development goals.
