The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has come out in the open that it is not welcoming anyone from Malawi Congress Party (MCP) claiming that the party is receiving calls from members and supporters of the MCP.
There have been growing tendency that when a political party wins the elections, people move from their parties to join the party in government for contracts and tenders which in the end, brings chaos in government as they cannot change to suit the party’s in government ideologies.
Since 1994, there have been political prostitutes flocking to government and in Parliament, it has been the worst, Members of Parliament (MPs) crossing the floor from opposition benches to government side on the claims that they consulted chiefs of their constituencies to tell them which side to go.
Speaking through an audio clip, DPP National Publicity Secretary Shadric Namalomba, said the DPP is well prepared to conduct its politics in line with the wishes of Malawians that voted for it into government on the 16th September, 2025 elections.
Namalomba said most of the party’s members and supporters are expecting a lot from the party saying while in the opposition, the party has learnt so many lessons and this time, it will walk with its members and supporters driving it and them are just leaders.
He said many members and supporters from the MCP wishing to join the DPP are doing that for their own benefit and not for Malawians reminding Malawians that after losing the June, 2020 presidential elections, DPP members of Parliament did not cross the floor to join MCP-UTM Alliance in government.
The Publicity Secretary said DPP MPs wanted to preserve democracy in Malawi advising MCP members and supporters that they should be with their party assuring them that all the doors of entering the DPP have been sealed off, particularly for those in MCP.
He has claimed that these members were there when DPP members were hacked at Mbowe filling station in Lilongwe, DPP members whipped with big sticks at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe and DPP members were being blocked from holding demos in Lilongwe.
Namalomba has claimed that some of these wishing to join the DPP from MCP were in the group sponsoring panga wielding thugs to terrorize and hacking innocent people in Lilongwe and DPP should not be a good party today because it has won the elections.
“DPP stand is, we are not welcoming anyone from MCP, they should be in their party, if we all joined the MCP, there could have been no opposition party in Malawi,” he said.
Limpopo FM radio station’s Nkhanga zaona programme producer Comrade Ntanyiwa, was the first to warn the DPP not to welcome anyone from MCP urging the party to reflect back how MCP members and supporters were treating them.
Comrade Ntanyiwa reminded the DPP that MCP members and supporters can in no way change saying MCP is the same as of yesterday and today, it is the party of death assuring the DPP that if MCP won the elections, all opposition party leaders, genuine activists and journalists could have been targeted for death.
