A Concerned citizen of Malawi residing in Area 51- Lilongwe, Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, has appealed to newly appointed Army Commander General George Jaffu and Police Inspector General Richard Luhanga to apologize to Malawians for their colleagues’ involvement in party politics of the MCP.
Kaliza said for the first time in the history of the two security institutions, MCP politicians have been taking advantage of their senior officers taking part in destroying the good image of the Army and Police that they were being controlled by MCP politicians.
She said there have been MCP thugs terrorizing and hacking innocent people, the police under former Inspector General Marylyn Nachika Yolamu were just watching without arresting the culprits speaking for itself that Police was serving the interests of the MCP not Malawians.
The citizen has claimed that within MCP thugs wielding pangas, there were identified police officers from Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Area 3 and 30 speaking for itself that police officers were supporting MCP against the citizens in the country.
Kaliza said it was worse hearing of reports that some Army officers were involved in the harassing of activist Sylvester Namiwa that instead of protecting him, they were just watching the situation up to the extent of leaving him half-dead.
She said MCP thugs at one point erected road blocks at Mpingu, M’bwatalika and Nsundwe preventing DPP members from going to Kamwendo Trading centrei n Mchinji where the DPP was holding a political rally, the Army was quiet.
The citizen said there was gunshots at Mponela Trading Centre in Dowa district when DPP Vice President for the centre Alfred Gangata was coming from Ntchisi to Lilongwe where he held a rally, the Army was quiet, no statement was said till this day.
She said she would have loved if General Jaffu and IG Police Richard Luhanga apologize to Malawians for a renewed lost trust by the citizens that their Army and Police was compromised discharging their duties in partisan politics of the ruling party in government.
“For 5 years of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the country did not have the Army and Police, all these two security institutions had their leaders captured by the MCP,” said Kaliza.
She expressed hope that General Jaffu and Police IG Luhanga will maintain the integrity of the Army and Police respectively for the citizens to trust and respect them in the same way they were accorded respect during the reign of Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
