The newly appointed FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) Head Coach for the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Luwinga Inclusive Academy, Abdul Musawir, has praised the patience and commitment of Malawians in nurturing football talent.
Speaking after a weeklong performance assessment of young players at the Mzuzu Inclusive Academy, Musawir expressed optimism about the country’s football development trajectory.
“Malawi’s football development programmes are on the right track, following a well-structured module currently being piloted,” he said.
Musawir, who holds both an AFC Pro Diploma and a UEFA B (England) Coaching Diploma, commended the enthusiasm and discipline of the young players. He also lauded the quality of coaching staff involved in the programme, noting their expertise in high-performance football, elite talent identification, coach education, and structured player development systems.
“The working environment here in Malawi is just phenomenal. As we continue prioritising talent identification and grassroots football development under the robust Transformation Agenda, I will play a key role in nurturing and shaping the next generation of Malawian football talent,” Musawir added.
At the academy’s official launch in December 2024, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya underscored the initiative’s alignment with the association’s broader Football Transformation Agenda.
“This programme is key to our strategy of creating robust player development pathways to produce quality players for elite performance at both national and club levels,” Haiya said.
Musawir, a Malaysian national, is engaged on a two-year contract and is supported by a team of local deputies: Joseph Malizani, Robert Ng’ambi, and Bridget Chirwa.
With his extensive background in elite football development, Musawir is expected to play a pivotal role in elevating Malawi’s football standards through the FIFA-TDS framework.
