The Chair of the Anglican Council in Malawi, Reverend Joseph Mchombo, has highlighted the crucial role of the Mother’s Union in promoting family values and encouraging strong family bonds.

Reverend Mchombo expressed his gratitude to Vice President Jane Ansah for accepting the invitation to attend the event at short notice.

“Thanked the VP Jane Ansah for accepting to come even though it was a short notice,” he said, acknowledging her kindness and generosity.

Reverend Mchombo praised the Vice President’s kind heart, saying, “Have a kind heart, you have highly honoured us for attending our today’s prayers.”

He emphasized the Anglican Church’s commitment to working closely with the government, particularly in areas such as education and health.

The Anglican Church is committed to collaboration with the government, with Reverend Mchombo stating, “The Anglican church will work hand in hand with government in education, health.”

He clarified that the church’s relationship with the government is one of partnership, rather than simply working in partnership.

“We are not in partnership with government, but partners,” he emphasized, underscoring the depth of the church’s commitment to supporting government initiatives and promoting national development.

Reverend Mchombo urged the clergy wives to emulate the founder of the Mother’s Union and support their husbands in their ministry.

“To the clergy wives, were asked to emulate the founder to help their husbands as they preach,” he said, highlighting the important role that wives play in supporting their husbands’ work.

The clergy were also advised to allow their wives to flourish in their own right, with Reverend Mchombo saying, “The clergy must allow their to flourish in the word of God.”

He emphasized the importance of the support of wives, saying, “You need the support of your wives so take care of your wives.”

The wives of the clergy were recognized as playing a crucial role in supporting their husbands, with Reverend Mchombo saying, “The wives of the clergy, you are the first advisor to your husbands as they work to preach the gospel.”

He urged women to take an active role in promoting mental health, highlighting the alarming rate of suicide among men and husbands due to societal pressures.

“Women must take part in mental health, many men and husbands commit suicide because of societal realities and pressure,” he said.

The Mother’s Union was urged to be catalysts for peaceful families, with Reverend Mchombo saying, “Mother’s Union must be catalysts for peaceful families.”

He also warned families to be cautious with social media and betting, which can lead to marriage breakdown.

Reverend Mchombo commended the government for its fiscal discipline, saying, “Commend government for fiscal discipline.”

He referenced the founder of the Mother’s Union, Elizabeth Mary, and her four main pillars, saying, “Elizabeth Mary Summer, founder of Anglican Mother’s Union, and she had four main pillars.”

Reverend Mchombo commended the government on the appointment of the Vice President, saying, “Commend government, your appointment as VP, we believe, was based on competence.”

He expressed confidence that the cabinet ministers and the president, Mutharika, will work together towards achieving economic recovery, despite the challenges posed by the war in the Middle East.
