The United Transformation Movement (UTM) has strongly criticized what it describes as ongoing mistreatment of Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah, raising concerns over the functioning and independence of her office.

In a statement released by the party’s Secretary General, Dr. Willet Karonga, UTM argues that the Office of the Vice President is being undermined through the withdrawal of key responsibilities and resources. The party says such actions not only hinder effective governance but also amount to a misuse of public funds.

Karonga confirmed the contents of the statement in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station, revealing that the party has observed a reduction in funding allocated to the Vice President’s office, the removal of security personnel, and what it describes as public humiliation of Dr. Ansah.

According to UTM, these developments are unacceptable and mirror patterns seen in previous administrations, where former Vice Presidents—including Dr. Cassim Chilumpha, Dr. Joyce Banda, and the late Dr. Saulos Chilima—faced similar challenges while in office.

The party maintains that such treatment raises serious constitutional concerns and reflects a broader disregard for the rule of law.

UTM has since called on President Peter Mutharika to intervene and ensure that the Vice President is allowed to carry out her duties without interference. The party has also urged Dr. Ansah to remain resolute and resist any pressure to step down from her position.

The development comes amid growing public debate over governance and the treatment of senior public officials in Malawi.
