The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Lu Xu, has emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness about the relationship between China and Malawi, saying it is key to ensuring citizens fully benefit from the growing partnership between the two nations.

Lu Xu made the remarks during the signing ceremony of a licensing agreement between the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and China’s National Radio and Television Administration. The agreement will allow MBC to broadcast Chinese television programs to audiences across Malawi.

According to the ambassador, the initiative will help Malawians gain a deeper understanding of China and the long-standing diplomatic relations between the two countries. Commenting on the development, MBC Director General Brian Banda described the partnership as an important educational opportunity for Malawians.

Banda said the Chinese programs will not only provide entertainment but also offer valuable cultural and educational content that many citizens would otherwise not experience firsthand.

“Not everyone can attend Chinese festivals in person, but MBC will bring that content into Malawians’ homes,” he said.

The agreement is expected to deepen media cooperation between Malawi and China while expanding cultural exchange through television programming.
