LILONGWE — Fresh signs of internal divisions are emerging within the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), with a group calling itself “Veterans” set to hold a press conference tomorrow amid reports of growing pressure against the party’s top leadership.

The group is reportedly planning to address the media at the MCP headquarters in Lilongwe, with sources familiar with the developments claiming that the meeting will focus on demands for changes within the party’s leadership.

The development comes at a time when the MCP has largely appeared calm following previous periods of intense internal disagreements.

There are also claims that the group has support from some other party members, including two Members of Parliament who are allegedly interested in securing influential positions within the party.
