DAM Targets Youths and Women in Push to Make Darts More Inclusive

The Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) says it is stepping up efforts to make darts a more inclusive sport by encouraging greater participation among youths and women.

The association says it wants to change the perception that darts is predominantly a sport for older men and people who drink alcohol.

DAM Resource Mobilisation Chairperson Amon Chinyophiro says the association is implementing strategies aimed at taking darts to a wider section of society, particularly young people.

Chinyophiro said DAM is engaging the Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) as part of efforts to introduce and promote darts in primary and secondary schools.

He said involving schools would provide an opportunity to identify and nurture young talent while also changing perceptions surrounding the sport.

According to Chinyophiro, the association is also aware that achieving its ambitions will require significant financial and material resources.

As part of its fundraising efforts, DAM has organised an aerobics and fitness fundraising event scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

The event will run from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, with organisers encouraging people of different ages to participate.

One of the trainers assigned to the event, Aaron Msukwa, said participants should expect a variety of exercises designed to cater for different age groups and fitness levels.

Msukwa has urged people to come out in large numbers and support the initiative, saying the event will provide an opportunity for people to exercise while contributing towards the development of darts in Malawi.

The entry fee for the fundraising event is a minimum of K5,000.

DAM says the funds raised will support its broader efforts to develop darts and create opportunities for more Malawians, particularly youths and women, to take up the sport.

The association believes that expanding participation at grassroots level, especially through schools, could help develop a new generation of darts players and strengthen the sport’s profile in Malawi.
