His domestic political profile and international professional engagement is attached to textured achievements and unmatched leadership experience. Dr George Chaponda has been holding strategic positions in DPP during his successful political tenure in Malawi.
This is a Gentleman who has been a cabinet minister for 13 solid years in different portfolios, ranging from Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, Education, Local Government, and Justice. During his time as a cabinet minister, Dr Chaponda implemented pro-poor policies which cushioned the life of the masses.
Dr Chaponda also served the party as Director of Research, Leader of the House, Leader of the Opposition, Treasurer General and Vice President for the Southern Region. Malawians are anxiously waiting to see a well organised and competent opposition side. This is the right time to engage Dr Chaponda to put things in order at the August house and Malawi at large.
Internationally, Dr George Thaputula Chaponda has been working with UNHCR for 20 years as an international professional civil servant. Basing on his credible academic background and professional competency, Dr Chaponda was assigned to work in different countries ranging from Somalia, Kenya, Thailand, Geneva, Tanzania, Poland, Australia, and Ethiopia. He has been working on senior position in all countries of his engagement.
He was a head of Recruitment under UNHCR in Geneva. He was also a Head of legal affairs in Australia. He served as Country Representative in Ethiopia and Deputy Regional Representative for Great Lakes region. Dr Chaponda is ready to combine his international professional experience and domestic political experience to bring in the needed leadership vibrancy as Malawi’s leader of opposition.
