Former President Peter Mutharika and his wife Gertrude, have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of 30 lives in three separate road accidents in Kasungu, Zomba, and Thyolo.
In a statement, Mutharika said, "We cannot begin to imagine the pain that the families and communities of the deceased are going through.
May the Lord comfort the families and give rest to the souls of those who have perished."
The Former Malawi President also called on all Malawians of faith to join him and the wife in prayer for protection and safety on the country's roads.
The accidents, which occurred on Thursday and Sunday, have sparked widespread concern over road safety in Malawi.
The government has yet to comment on measures to address the issue.
