The leader of the National Development Party (NDP), Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo, has said that for Malawi to develop, some powers must be taken away from the President and given to the regions—through a federal system of government.
He said this is the only way the country can experience balanced and meaningful development.
Mwenifumbo argued that Malawians will continue blaming the President because it is difficult for one leader to ensure development in all regions equally, often leading to favoritism toward certain areas.
He added that under federalism, each region would have its own development initiatives and leaders to guide them.
