Tobacco Market Commence End March

TAMA Farmers Trust has commended the early commencement of this year’s tobacco marketing season.

They are optimistic that development that would deter producers from selling their leaf to middlemen.

The Tobacco Commission (TC) announced this week that the marketing season will commence in the next two weeks, starting with the Kanengo Auction Floors on 31 March and the Limbe Floors on 5 April.

This, according to the Trust, will also ensure that the growers realise reasonable revenue at the auction floors.

Meanwhile, supply of stocks to Kanengo and Limbe markets is expected to start on Monday, 21 March.

TAMA Farmers Trust Chief Executive Officer Nixon Lita, states that although the authorities are yet to release official estimates, they are worried with low production this year, owing to hostile weather conditions among others.
